I have been doing a lot of traveling and such studying abroad. I need to update this a lot more however i am getting ready for midterms and as i do want to write more i need to study.

Korea Days 2-4
Friday August 24th 2012
So basically i screwed up a bit and missed the first half of my orientation. I realized it was occurring and had to return to my dorm room to write down my id number. by the time i had returned to the hall where they were handing out orientation packets the morning session had ended. This was about a 30 minute walk each way :/ OTL
After getting my student ID card. The second half of the orientation seems pretty awesome. I unfortunately missed out on signing up for the city tour and palace tour. However I did not have enough money to do either of those anyway.
After orientation the Mentors club, which is a university organization that has the goal of getting the exchange students to be in groups with a korean students leading them. we are arranged in groups of 36 with 6 korean students from yonsei. It was really cool meeting the students in my cell. We ended up going to a korean restaurant which had really really good chicken :D after the restaurant we went to a bar where i had a cup and a half of makgeolli and 2 or 3 shots of soju. I was out of korean won at this time so i went back to the dorms with two other people who were tired and did not want to go to the club. I was kinda tired at that time too. I ended up watching MLG and WCS Starcraft.
Saturday August 25th 2012
Today i made a temporary trade with my roommate of 20,000 won for 20 dollars. This enabled me to eat today. By the way eating once a day is XD. I didn’t do much today because of the lack of money and not writing down people from my cell’s contact info. I also discovered that the banks in korea are closed on saturday and sunday :/ This did not allow me to open a bank account. I walked around a bit in Sinchon and managed not to get lost, it was good exercise. I do think i have an amount of the campus explored. Didn’t do much this day. Did try a burger from downstairs which was <3. The price was slightly more expensive than the restaurants on the streets, however the convenience was :) I ended the day watching MLG and WCS starcraft.

Today I didn’t do much other than to try to get on a KST sleep schedule. Which did work for my first night, however didn’t saturday night :/
I’m trying to get my sleep schedule partially back on track. I should get food soon too. I had a bag of potato chips that were a bit disappointing.
I did discover my ISIC card does work in the shop downstairs. Now i just have to discover whether it works in the restaurants downstairs. I also did half of my laundry. The other half will have to wait until the morning or later tonight. While eating i met a few new people and we ended up exploring a bit of Sinchon. Anywhoms i should go get some food :) and watch more mlg XD

Woke up from home to get ready.
130 EST (1430 KST)
left home for Detroit metro
300 ESt (1600 KST)
got to Detroit metro 2hr 50 minutes early. I guess we could’ve left a bit later. the automated ticket thingy didn’t work with the first machine but did with the second. sometimes the advances of technology are :/
450 EST (1750 KST)
Went through TSA. the TSA guy was ok except he yelled at me for not putting my shoes/laptop/tech in different bins… i didn’t know. but w/e got through it ok.
515 EST (1815 KST)
boarded plane. was a small regional jet. was a decent ride. wish that they would serve water more often (something that i think for all of the flights)
did not have a passenger next to me XD
700 EST (1900 KST)
Landed at chicago o hare. this was relatively uneventful. made it with 20 minutes to spare to board. unfortunately i did not get to purchase a beverage (something i must do between every flight from now on.)
815 EST i think? idr xD 2115 KST
boarded flight from o-hare to san francisco. an airbus. slept on this flight unfortunately DX
no passenger next to me again.
1230ish EST (030 KST the 23rd)
landed in san francisco international. wooohoo. seems pretty cool.
saw a burberry store. had a slight flight delay :/ but otherwise it was all good. the boarding delay was from an electrical fix that they had failed to fix and the flight delay was from late incoming connecting flights.
1300ish EST (100 KST the 23rd)
took off from san francisco international. this flight was meh. didn’t sleep very much because i slept on my connecting flights OTL. anywhoms. i became friends with the guy i was sitting next to. extremely nice. he even gave me his business card.
August 23rd
230 AM EST (1530 KST)
landed in korea. was extremely uneventful landing. customs and such were a breeze. I definitely wanted a shower at this time.
300 AM EST (1600 KST)
got into a taxi and was eseentially scammed. anywhoms… learned to always take the bus…. the taxi guy was…. yeah anywhoms
400 AM EST (1700 KST)
Was dropped off near yonsei. was essentially lost for about a half hour until i ran into someone who knew their way around.
430 AM eST (1730 KST) and onwards
found sk global house and moved in essentially ^_^
met my current roommate who is moving out because they took away the RA position that they had offered him. So for a day i will probably be going solo in a dorm room. not sure how that will go :/
I got all of my stuff arranged. With what is left of my money currently i got everything setup so i can power all of my electronics and have a “glass” to hold water.
Found out that you have to buy your own meals around yonsei’s campus. this requires won. As a result i’m going to open up an account at the local campus bank.
Also figured out that my international phone works ^_^. i can call people ftw :)
900 AM EST (2200 KST)
I think i passed out at this time. not sure… i just know i drifted off.
In summary:
Flights went well with only a minor delay in SFO.
Almost always take the bus.
Jetlag sucks.
The way that the rooms are arranged is quite cool.
The energy saving measures in the dorms are something that a lot of US Universities can learn from.
I’ll upload a video from my dorm/campus ASAP.
I’m supposed to expect slight shock/racism from koreans that i can only speak english not korean.
I want to steal this keyboard. it has korean/us keys XD
